Allison Matia spends fall 2016 semester studying in Sweden

Allison Matia of Medina was among 18 Baldwin Wallace University students who spent the fall 2016 semester learning in another country through the BW Study Abroad Center's Independent Study program. Matia, a graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School majoring in neuroscience psychology and psychology, traveled to Umea, Sweden for an individualized immersion experience at Umea University. Umea is known for its international and multicultural presence with students, teachers and researchers from all over the world. As one of the leading comprehensive universities in Sweden, they also pride themselves on their enthusiasm, creativity and fresh ideas.

The BW Study Abroad Center engages students through global exploration and off-campus study that enhances personal growth, educational enrichment and career development as part of the university's liberal arts effort to cultivate contributing and compassionate citizens. Through faculty-led and independent study abroad opportunities, students can build strong communication skills, enhanced critical thinking and personal confidence from trekking the unknown.
