Andrew Pope helps stage 'Intimate Apparel' at Baldwin Wallace University

2017 May 31

Andrew Pope of Cleveland Heights was part of a talented cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University that staged Lynn Nottage's "Intimate Apparel" under the direction of Shinnerrie Jackson during the spring 2017 semester. Pope, a graduate of Lutheran High School East majoring in acting, played the part of George in the production.

The breathtaking and moving drama ranks among the best American plays of the century. Esther, an African-American woman living in the dawn of the last century, makes an uncommon living sewing exquisite lingerie, allowing her rare access into the private lives of others.

Assistant director Bryce Lewis described the play as "a story that transcends time, place, and people ... You can see yourself in every character; you take the same journey as Esther as she teaches us that sometimes you feel as though you've fallen apart."

"Intimate Apparel" is one of an extensive number of performance experiences providing real-world opportunities for students at Baldwin Wallace University. Productions include plays, musicals, operas, music concerts and dance concerts. Details at www.bw.edu/events.
