Kelsey Baehrens helped stage "Angels In America" at Baldwin Wallace University

Kelsey Baehrens of Kailua was part of a talented cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University that staged "Angels In America, Part One: Millennium Approaches" in the 2015 fall semester. The play is heralded by many as "one of the most important pieces of theatre to come out of the 20th century." Most of the actors in the production had multiple roles to play, changing costumes and some even changing genders. According to Rave and Pan, the actors did not disappoint, proving "that it ain't just the singers who are the stars in Berea" and delivering "captivating performances virtually across the board." Baehrens, a graduate of Mid Pacific Institute majoring in theatre with a focus on acting and directing, played the parts of Harper Amaty Pitt and Martin Heller in the production.

"Angels In America, Part One: Millennium Approaches" is an exploration of sexuality and politics. The story centers around many different kinds of people including Mormons, gay men, lawyers and rabbis in New York City amidst the 1985 AIDS crisis. The story, built around two couples, manages to address themes that are both intimate and universal.
