Kelsey Baehrens helped stage "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"

2015 Feb 25

Kelsey Baehrens of Kailua was part of a talented cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University that staged Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize winning "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" this February. The play, directed by Dr. Jack Winget, is often considered the greatest American Drama ever written.

In "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," Williams exposes the emotional lies governing relationships in a wealthy Southern family while exploring the human experience and our inability to communicate, which inevitably leads to loneliness. Williams maintained that instead of writing characters an audience can root for, the heroes of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" are not persons, but the qualities in people that allow them to survive. Baehrens, a graduate of Mid Pacific Institute majoring in theatre with a focus on acting and directing, played the role of Lacey and was the understudy for the role of Margaret in the production.

Upcoming Baldwin Wallace University productions include the Department of Theatre and Dance's staging of "Dark of the Moon," directed by Scott Plate, April 9-12 and 16-19, and "Henry IV Part Two," directed by Adam Heffernan, May 29-30. Tickets are available at www.bw.edu/tickets.
