Maddie Russell of Baldwin Wallace Earns Second OAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Weekly Honor

Baldwin Wallace University senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River High School) has been selected as the OAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive of the Week.

Russell garners her second offensive of the week honor and her third overall OAC weekly accolade after being named the defender of the week on March 27. She recorded nine draw controls, had nine ground balls and caused seven turnovers, scored five goals and added four assists as BW won a pair of OAC games. She tallied a season-high tying seven draw controls, a season-best tying six ground balls, had three caused turnovers, scored two goals and added season-best four assists in a victory against Heidelberg University last Wednesday. Russell closed out the week as she recorded three grounds balls, caused three turnovers, had two draw controls and scored three goals, including the game-winner with 42 seconds remaining, in a victory over Capital University last Saturday.

This season, she anchors the defense with team-bests in ground balls (49), draw controls (40) and caused turnovers (23). Russell also ranks among the team leaders on the offensive side as she tied for the team lead in goals (25), third in points (34) and fourth in assists (9).

For her career, Russell is the school's all-time record-holder in ground balls (272), total points (220), draw controls (180), caused turnovers (183) and goals (143). She is second all-time in assists with 77. Russell is a three-time All-OAC first-team selection, the 2015 OAC Defender of the Year, a two-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region second-team selection. She was named the BW Most Valuable Player as a sophomore and the OAC Offensive Player of the Week as a freshman.

Off the field, Russell is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection, a COSIDA Academic All-District 7 selection, a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. She is a chemistry major that carries a 3.967 grade point average and is a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, April 12 when they travel to University Heights for an OAC game against cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wasmer Field inside Don Shula Stadium at 7 p.m. The next home game is on Friday, April 14 when the team hosts an OAC and Seniors' and Parents' Day game against Ohio Northern University on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 1 p.m.
