Maddie Russell of Baldwin Wallace Garners Second Career OAC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Accolade

Baldwin Wallace University senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River High School) has been selected as the OAC Women's Lacrosse Defender of the Week.

Russell, who garners her first defender of the week honor and her second OAC weekly accolade, recorded eight ground balls, caused three turnovers, had seven draw controls, scored two goals and added one assist as BW split a pair of games last week. Russell tallied a season-high seven draw controls and a season-best tying six ground balls and three caused turnovers as the Yellow Jackets won their OAC opener against Muskingum University on Saturday.

This season, she anchors the defense as she leads the team in ground balls (33), draw controls (22) and caused turnovers (11). Russell also ranks among the team leaders on the offensive side as she tied for the team lead in goals (17), third in points (21) and fourth in assists (4).

For her career, Russell is the school's all-time record-holder in ground balls (245), total points (202), draw controls (165), caused turnovers (151) and goals (131). She is second all-time in assists with 71. Russell is a three-time All-OAC first-team selection, the 2015 OAC Defender of the Year, a two-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region second-team selection. She was named the BW Most Valuable Player as a sophomore and the OAC Offensive Player of the Week as a freshman.

Off the field, Russell is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection, a COSIDA Academic All-District 7 selection, a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. She is a chemistry major that carries a 3.967 grade point average and is a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, April 1 when they host an OAC game against Wilmington College on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 1 p.m.
