Neelab Abdullah earns recognition at Baldwin Wallace University's Ovation Festival 2017

2017 May 15

Neelab Abdullah of Cleveland was among over 50 students recognized at the Honors Awards Ceremony during Baldwin Wallace University's Ovation Festival 2017, BW's annual celebration of student achievement.

Abdullah, a graduate of Lakewood High School majoring in public health, received the John F. and Ida E. Gibler Scholarship. The scholarship is presented in honor of John and Ida Gibler who held a deep commitment to the value of higher education and the resulting improvement of the human condition. This award is presented annually to an outstanding Baldwin Wallace student who expresses interest in a career in ministry, medicine or law.

In presenting the award, BW recognized Abdullah for being the vice president of the BW pre-medical society and instrumental in developing a program whereby she takes fellow students to homeless shelters to assist physicians and medical staff. She is also the first student in 23 years at BW to be accepted to the University of Cincinnati's prestigious ROSE (Research, Observation, Service and Education) program.

Now in its 10th year, Ovation has expanded from a single day to a 10-day festival in order to more fully recognize student success in research and scholarship, the arts, experiential learning and leadership, and athletics. The signature event is the Day of Excellence, which features exceptional student work from every school of the University through posters, displays, live presentations and performances. The day concludes with the campus-wide Honors Awards Ceremony that recognizes student achievement with scholarships and awards.
