Ohio Athletic Conference Defender of the Year Maddie Russell Garners IWLCA All-Great Lakes Region Accolade

Sophomore Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder and OAC Defender of the Year Maddie Russell of Lakewood has been selected as second-team Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Great Lakes Region.

Russell joins 255 other student-athletes in Division III that were selected to on one of the All-Regional teams for 2015. All 256 student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Monday May 18. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday June 6 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia.

Russell, who earns her first career all-region honor, led the team in goals with 29, points with 46, ground balls with 52, draw controls with 50 and caused turnovers with 48. She was second on the team in assists with 17. Russell was fourth in NCAA Division III with 3.43 caused turnovers per game. She also garnered her second consecutive first-team All-OAC selection.

For her career, Russell has appeared in 32 career games. She is the school record holder in goals with 84, points with 125, ground balls with 148 and draw controls with 90 and is second in assists with 41.

BW finished the season with a record of 8-6 overall and 4-2 in OAC play. The Yellow Jackets advanced to their second straight OAC Tournament championship game.
