Sarah Wyss appointed Baldwin Wallace University Community Research Institute Student Fellow

2016 Jul 1

Sarah Wyss of Louisville was named a Baldwin Wallace University Community Research Institute (CRI) Student Fellow for the 2016-2017 academic year. Wyss, a graduate of Louisville High School majoring in political science, will spend the year learning about and participating in survey research design, data collection and analysis, and communicating research findings to the press. As a fellow, she will also receive a stipend and have the opportunity to earn up to three academic credits.

Founded in 2005, CRI conducts regional, statewide and national surveys for government agencies, nonprofits, foundations, community-based organizations, businesses and the media. CRI also serves as a laboratory for teaching students research methods, providing hands-on experience in applied research, and multi-media training in the methodology and substance of research on social and political issues.

In fall 2015, CRI launched its inaugural Greater Cleveland Quality of Life Study measuring northeast Ohio residents' attitudes on topics such as northeast Ohio's assets and challenges; public affairs and civic engagement; community satisfaction; news media use; public safety and policing; state ballot measures; environmental risk perception; and controversial social issues. One goal of the study was to create experiential learning opportunities for BW students through the new CRI Student Fellows Program. The interdisciplinary program provides students the opportunity to further their training and development as researchers by working closely with CRI staff to process data from the Greater Cleveland Quality of Life study; generate the 2016 Greater Cleveland Quality of Life study report; and design survey instruments for the ideastream Listening Project.
