Vanessa Adu-Gyamfi earns Obie Bender Multicultural Award at Baldwin Wallace University

2016 May 17

Vanessa Adu-Gyamfi of Accra was honored at the Obie Bender Multicultural Awards ceremony at Baldwin Wallace University during the spring 2016 semester. Adu-Gyamfi, a graduate of Wesley Girls' High School majoring in economics and international studies with a focus on international affairs, received the Community Service Award. The award is designed to highlight a student that seeks to make a difference by giving back. The recipient understands that, through service, the reward of knowing you made a difference outweighs the monetary compensation.

In presenting the award, BW recognized Adu-Gyamfi's eagerness to become involved with a variety of service opportunities available through the Office of Community Outreach. She has volunteered consistently with a wide range of programs, including Alternative Breaks, International Service, Special Projects and Super Saturdays. She was also an integral part of the student team that worked diligently for almost a year to bring the Campus Kitchens Project to BW.

Baldwin Wallace celebrates outstanding multicultural students each spring at the Obie Bender Awards ceremony. The annual awards are named for Dr. Obie Bender '62, who was an officer of the University for 36 years. Throughout his tenure Bender provided exceptional leadership as a BW administrative liaison and was responsible for intercollegiate athletics, campus security, and the health and physical education and recreation facilities.
