Baldwin Wallace University announces first recipients of University Hospitals Health Sciences Scholarships
The awards are aimed at building the healthcare talent pipeline and filling the urgent need for medical professionals.
Berea, OH (06/05/2025) — Five aspiring healthcare professionals are the inaugural recipients of $2,000 University Hospitals Health Sciences Scholarships through a partnership between Baldwin Wallace University and University Hospitals (UH). The awards aim to build the healthcare talent pipeline and fill the urgent need for medical professionals.
The University Hospitals Health Sciences Scholarships are being awarded to second-year students in the University's physician assistant graduate program and to returning undergraduate students who have declared a major related to healthcare careers.
Adding healthcare professionals
The UH Health Sciences Scholarships are presented by the University Hospitals Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute with the shared goal of ensuring a robust pipeline of essential healthcare workers for the future.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in healthcare is projected to grow much faster than the average employment sector through 2033. Nearly 2 million healthcare job openings, on average, are projected each year due to an increase in available jobs and a shortage of healthcare workers.
"It is an honor to partner with Baldwin Wallace University to celebrate the brightest minds in the vital field of healthcare," said James Voos, MD, Chairman, Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Jack and Mary Herrick Distinguished Chair, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at University Hospitals. "Our hope is that they will continue their invaluable work and serve our community for years to come."
Variety of healthcare career tracks
With the generous support of UH, the inaugural scholarship recipients from the spring Class of 2025 are:
- Kennedy Newhart from Mentor, Ohio, pursuing a Master of Medical Science in the physician assistant program.
- Jenna Sirianni from Washington, Pennsylvania, pursuing a Master of Medical Science in the physician assistant program.
- Kirstin Aslanides from Louisville, Kentucky, majoring in pre-allied health/pre-physical therapy.
- Michael Delsanter from Parma, Ohio, majoring in nursing.
- Maree Horne from Cleveland, majoring in public health.
These students represent the first of five rounds of The University Hospitals Health Sciences Scholarship awards.
