Five BW students gave up celebrating with loved ones to dedicate their Thanksgiving break to service on an alternative break experience focused on changing the negative stigma behind homelessness. The BW Alternative Break service program gives students the opportunity to spend their breaks helping others. Each experience is led by a BW student with support from a University faculty or staff adviser.

Nine BW students spent their fall break learning about the impact of homelessness on individuals and providing hands-on service to those in need on an alternative break experience in Cincinnati. A group of BW students, alumni and faculty/staff advisers spent two weeks serving in the Dominican Republic. The experience was in partnership with Outreach 360, an organization that focuses on educating children so they can become gainfully employed as adults and "live a life of choice."

Eleven BW students from a variety of majors participated in an International Service Experience trip to the Dominican Republic. The students spent two weeks teaching English to first through seventh graders at Escuela Basica John F. Kennedy in Monte Cristi. Other activities included exploring the city and participating in educational and cultural activities.

An inaugural trip to Guatemala brought intrinsic meaning and impactful service opportunities to 20 BW Honors Program students and faculty. The two-week trip was the culmination of a program that combined eight weeks of in-class study with overseas travel.

Ten environmentally-minded Baldwin Wallace University students spent a week of their summer break making a difference on the North Carolina coast. BW's Alternative Break Service Program provides students the opportunity to spend their breaks helping others. During this trip, student volunteers helped with environmental justice, sustainability and conservation efforts. The trip was led by BW student Sarah Yeates with support from faculty adviser Jordan Saul.
