Baldwin Wallace University Summer Scholars pursue research with passion and adaptability
From public health to sport management to sustainability and more, six students pursued research of their own design under a faculty mentor's supervision as part of BW's Summer Scholars program. Typically, scholars live together for 10 weeks on campus while engaging in collaborative activities. Due to COVID-19, this year's scholars had to adapt to remote collaboration or in-person safety protocols instead.

The prestigious honor is enabling William Lekan to go to Taiwan. He will teach English to middle school students on the Taiwanese island of Kinmen and engage in community service projects with the Buddhist organization Tsu Chi.

Scholars lived together for 10 weeks on campus and had extensive opportunities to engage in collaborative activities within an intellectual community. Participants will present the results of their projects in the lobby of Strosacker Hall on Oct. 6 from 4-6 p.m.

Students will give their final research presentations in April at the Summer Scholars "Passing the Torch" ceremony as part of the 2018 Ovation Festival.

Baldwin Wallace University Student Secures Major Grant
Rachel Zacharias, a BW senior majoring in neuroscience and psychology, won a prestigious $5,000 grant from Psi Chi, The International Honor Society in Psychology to fund the research for her thesis project. Zacharias will use the grant to study the effectiveness of acetazolamide and corticosterone as either prophylactics or treatments for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

BW Summer Scholars Break New Ground in Research and Creative Studies
From science to music to philosophy and more, 11 students pursued research or creative projects of their own design under the supervision of a faculty mentor as part of BW's Summer Scholars program. The 10-week program recently received a generous gift from John Schanz '53 in memory of his wife, Joyce Evans Schanz '53. The Scholars live together in a collaborative learning environment on campus and regularly share their research with one another through weekly meetings.
