This spring, the BW theatre and dance community presented "fyoo zh en '22: Revelry or Riot?" The annual "fyoo zh en" dance concert combines choreography with faculty research. This year's concert was inspired by Dr. Dale Sheptak's research on crowd dynamics. Choreographers used movement to illustrate the fine line between supporting your team and breaking the law.

BW students produced Qui Nguyen's "She Kills Monsters" under the direction of associate professor Keira McDonald during the spring 2021 semester. The play tells the story of Agnes Evans, who, after a tragic accident, tries to reconnect with her dead sister by playing Dungeons and Dragons.

Baldwin Wallace University students participate in 'BARS' co-production with Playhouse Square
Baldwin Wallace University and Playhouse Square co-produced "BARS (Beatboxing, Acting, Rapping, Singing)" during the spring 2021 semester. The hip-hop, music theatre-based improv show, conceived by BW music theatre alumnus Jay Ellis "JEllis," was an innovative production combining the classic music theatre artform with contemporary skills in beatboxing and rapping.

Baldwin Wallace students explore tragic 1889 flood through dance in annual performance
This spring, the BW theatre and dance community presented "fyoo zh en '21: Floodcity." The annual dance concert fuses choreography with faculty research. This year's concert was inspired by geologist Dr. Carrie Davis Todd's research on the 1889 Johnstown, Pennsylvania, flood. The production used movement to explore the neglect of the South Fork dam belonging to wealthy members of an elite country club and the devastation and impact that followed its failure.

Written and directed by BW acting major Sam Sommer, "Staged Reading: A Staged Reading" is about a group of actors putting on a staged reading of a play about a group of actors putting on a play about a staged reading. The show was filmed in BW's Acting Studio with health safety protocols in place and premiered on Sommer's website for a ticketed audience.

BW students staged the humorously quirky "Muses Anonymous," written and directed by assistant professor of dance Sara Whale. The innovative "drive-in" performance allowed the audience to watch the live action from the safety of their vehicles while hearing the muses share some of their most memorable "inspirations" on their radio.

Students bring 'Stupid F##king Bird' to the stage at Baldwin Wallace University
Under the direction of Rene Copeland, assistant professor of directing, BW students staged Aaron Posner's "Stupid F##king Bird." Billed as sort of adapted from 'The Seagull' by Anton Chekhov, the play tells the story of an aspiring playwright who aches to make theatre an agent of change, in revolt against the commercialism his famous actress mother revels in.

Baldwin Wallace University and Beck Center for the Arts produced "The Scottsboro Boys" under the direction and choreography of Jon Martinez. Based on David Thompson's novel, the musical tells the story of nine young men in a landmark case that helped give rise to the Civil Rights Movement.

Baldwin Wallace University students present the academic premiere of 'Kinky Boots'
A co-production between the BW Conservatory of Music's music theatre program and the department of theatre and dance, "Kinky Boots" features a joyous, Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and is based on a hilarious, uplifting book by four-time Tony-winner Harvey Fierstein. The production drew applause from the show's Broadway producer, rave critical reviews, a BW music theatre homecoming and numerous opportunities to affirm and lead on the issue of inclusion.
