Baldwin Wallace University Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs at The Kennedy Center

BW's Symphonic Wind Ensemble embarked on a six-day performance tour in Washington, D.C. over 2016 Spring Break. They interacted with students from four diverse high schools through a variety of master classes and performances. The tour culminated with a performance at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Students stage "Big Love" at Baldwin Wallace University

A talented cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University staged Charles Mee's "Big Love" during the spring 2016 semester. Directed by Anjanette Hall, the play puts a unique, modern twist to the Greek play, "The Suppliants" by Aeschylus when fifty brides (represented by 3) flee to a manor in Italy to avoid marrying their fifty cousins.

Students stage "The Tragedy of Carmen" at Baldwin Wallace University

BW student vocalists and orchestra members performed the opera "The Tragedy of Carmen" during the spring semester. Peter Brook's 1983 adaptation pares Georges Bizet's "Carmen" down to its most essential parts, while retaining much of its well-known music.

Baldwin Wallace University students stage "In the Heights" at Beck Center

Baldwin Wallace University and Beck Center for the Arts produced their fifth collaboration with Lin-Manuel Miranda's "In the Heights," directed by Victoria Bussert with choreography by Gregory Daniels and musical direction by David Pepin. The Plain Dealer touted the production as "vibrant, heartfelt. . .pulsing with highly caffeinated life."

Student composers, choreographers and dancers created and performed a collaborative new music and dance project inspired by Dr. Barbara Palmer's extensive research on female political candidates from the last century.

Students staged "All Shook Up" at Baldwin Wallace University

A talented cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University staged "All Shook Up" during the fall 2015 semester. Directed by Scott Spence, the show combined the legendary music of Elvis Presley with a rollicking and funny book by Broadway veteran Joe DePietro. "All Shook Up" was one of an extensive number of opportunities offered by the Baldwin Wallace music theatre program providing students with real-world performance experience.

Students staging "Angels In America" at Baldwin Wallace University earn great reviews

A talented cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University staged "Angels In America, Part One: Millennium Approaches" during the 2015 fall semester. The play, written by Tony Kushner, has won numerous honors as well as being hailed as "one of the most important pieces of theatre to come out of the 20th century." Under Scott Plate's direction, Rave and Pan called several moments "emotionally shattering" and noted that the production "shows that it ain't just the singers who are the stars in Berea.

Students stage "Dark of the Moon" at Baldwin Wallace University

A talented cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University staged "Dark of the Moon" during the spring 2015 semester. The play, written by Howard Richardson and William Berney, is a chilling Smoky Mountain romance based on the haunting folk ballad, "Barbara Allen." Directed by Scott Plate, "Dark of the Moon" recounts the story of John, a strange "witch boy," who falls in love with the beautiful Barbara Allen.

Students stage "The Two Noble Kinsmen" at Baldwin Wallace University

A talented cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University staged "The Two Noble Kinsmen" during the 2015 fall semester. The play, a tragicomedy co-written by William Shakespeare and John Fletcher is based on Chaucer's "A Knight's Tale" and draws elements from the relationship between Venus and Mars. Directed by Adam Heffernan, "The Two Noble Kinsmen" delivers the last words Shakespeare ever wrote for theater.

BW students stage Mozart's opera "La finta giardiniera"

BW student vocalists and orchestra members performed the opera "La finta giardiniera" this spring. The early Mozart gem tells the fun and fantastical story of a noblewoman who disguises herself as a gardener to go looking for the man she loves. Romance literally drives the main characters mad, but they come to their senses and it all works out in the end.

BW students staging "Dogfight" earn great reviews

The reviews are in with thumbs up for the Baldwin Wallace University and Beck Center for the Arts collaborative production of "Dogfight," directed by Victoria Bussert with choreography by Gregory Daniels and musical direction by David Pepin. The Plain Dealer touts "Dogfight" as having, "Precision performances - Broadway quality and better." The show has been such a hit; the run was extended through March 22.

Students stage "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"

A talented cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University staged Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize winning "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" this February. The play, directed by Dr. Jack Winget, is often considered the greatest American Drama ever written. It exposes the emotional lies governing relationships in a wealthy Southern family while exploring the human experience and our inability to communicate, which inevitably leads to loneliness.

Students Stage THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE

A talented cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University will present THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE, a tale of power, scandal and betrayal at a Highlands school for girls. Directed by Jack B. Winget, the production runs April 9-13 in the William Allman Theater, Kleist Center for Arts & Drama, 95 East Bagley Road, Berea. Audiences will enjoy the distinctive experience of alley stage seating and the added spectacle of high energy Scottish dancing between acts.

BW Students Performing in CARRIE: The Musical Earn Glowing Reviews

The reviews are in with thumbs up for Baldwin Wallace University and Beck Center for the Arts collaborative presentation of "CARRIE: The Musical," directed by Victoria Bussert with choreography by Gregory Daniels and musical direction by Nancy Maier. The Plain Dealer calls CARRIE, based on Stephen King's 1974 heart-chilling novel, "a powerful wallop of a piece with a smart, pop sensibility balanced by real emotion ... it's like nothing that has come before." Runs through March 9, 2014.

BW Students Chosen to Perform in the Opera Production of Hansel & Gretel

Baldwin Wallace University presents Engelbert Humperdinck's "Hansel & Gretel," directed by Benjamin Wayne Smith and guest conducted by Dean Williamson. Two fantastic student casts create the young children, their struggling parents, the hungry witch and the rest of the characters the audience will meet on a trip through the dark forest. The production features a timeless story, lush, gorgeous music sung in English, and a magical fairytale setting. Runs February 20 - 23, 2014.

Students Compose Music, Choreograph Movement and Dance for "fyoo zh en '14"

The distinctive dance production at Baldwin Wallace University, dubbed "fyoo zh en '14: new music & dance" will feature a "fusion" (fyoo zh en) of completely original movement and music March 20-23. The annual event pairs ten student choreographers with ten student composers, and features more than 30 BW student dancers.

Baldwin Wallace Students Perform in EURYDICE

Six students are starring in the Baldwin Wallace University production of EURYDICE, written by Sarah Ruhl and guest directed by Sara Bruner, Artistic Associate of Great Lakes Theater. The majority of the play, set in the underworld, provides a surreal and imaginary world for the audience to explore. EURYDICE runs through February 8 at 7:30 p.m. and February 8 and 9 at 2 p.m.
