Students inducted into philosophy honor society at Baldwin Wallace University

The following students achieved membership in the BW Sigma Chapter of Phi Sigma Tau, the International Honor Society in Philosophy, in the spring 2017 semester. Undergraduate students are eligible for active membership if they have completed three semesters or five quarters of the college course, rank in the upper 35 percent of their class, and have completed at least two semester courses in philosophy with an average grade of over the second highest grade of the working scale.

Honor Society - 2017 Apr 11

Students inducted into history honor society at Baldwin Wallace University

The following students achieved membership in the BW Delta Upsilon Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society in the spring 2017 semester. Society membership is extended to students who have completed at least 12 credit hours of history courses; have at least a 3.1 GPA in history courses; and have at least a 3.0 GPA in all non-history courses.

Students stage 'Dialogues of the Carmelites' at Baldwin Wallace University

BW student vocalists and orchestra members performed the opera "Dialogues of the Carmelites" during the spring semester. Francis Poulenc's fictionalized portrayal of the Martyrs of Compiegne tells the timely and tragic story of Carmelite nuns who were guillotined in Paris for refusing to renounce their vocation during the French Revolution's Reign of Terror.

Student choreographers and dancers created and performed a collaborative new music and dance project inspired by assistant professor of biology Dr. Karen Munroe's research on the social and mating behaviors of squirrels.

BW students first in the nation to participate in new NASA space science experience

Ten BW students took a walk in the footsteps of NASA astronauts over 2017 spring break, the first college students in the nation to pilot a new NASA educational program designed with the help of BW faculty. The program, which is designed to promote teamwork, problem solving, communication and engineering solutions to space science scenarios, culminated with a graduation ceremony and exclusive "Brunch with an Astronaut."

BW students celebrate "Sweet Sixteen" Dance Marathon to fight pediatric AIDS

Over 80 students participated in the 16th Annual Dance Marathon at Baldwin Wallace University. Dance Marathon is the largest philanthropy organization on campus. Lasting 12 hours, the marathon consists of performers, dancing and HIV/AIDS education. All proceeds are donated to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, which seeks to educate and reduce the the transmission and cases of pediatric AIDS worldwide.

Students at Baldwin Wallace University elected their 105th student body president and vice president. The winning slate of President Kevin Kaufhold '18 from Olmsted Township, Ohio and Vice President Olivia Murphy '18 from Johnstown, Penn. took the oath of office on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The BW Alternative Break service program gives students the opportunity to spend their breaks helping others. Student volunteers traveled to Detroit over Thanksgiving break and to San Antonio, New Orleans and Chicago over winter break.

Forty-nine students achieved membership in Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) National Honor Society for First-Year Students in the spring 2017 semester. ALD is an honor society for full-time students who achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher and were in the top 20 percent of their class during their first year of higher education.

Eighteen students spent the fall 2016 semester away from BW learning in another country. With help from the BW Study Abroad Center's Independent Study program, students created individualized immersion experiences in Austria, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Russia, Scotland, South Korea, Sweden and Switzerland.

Twenty-two BW students participated in the "Discovering India" program, a transformative experience in Bangalore, New Delhi and Agra, during the fall 2016 semester. The program provides an in-depth understanding of India's culture, social institutions and business environment through a semester of study and preparation in the classroom before traveling to India for hands-on experiences.
